Chair applications

The Chairing Panel plays a central role in upholding the academic rigor and procedural integrity of ISB MUN. Chairs are entrusted not only with moderating debate, but also mentoring both experience and new delegates. Their work directly influences the intellectual quality, fairness, and pedagogical value of each committee session.

Candidates for the Chairing Panel are expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of Model UN procedure, a command of parliamentary conduct, and the ability to guide delegates through complex diplomatic discourse. Prior experience in chairing or advanced participation in Model UN is highly recommended, as the position demands analytical clarity, impartial decision-making, and effective communication.

Commitee options

This edition aspires to establish itself as Romania’s most new-delegate-oriented Model UN by organizing all committees according to explicit tiers of expertise. This structured distribution ensures that participants engage in deliberative environments commensurate with their prior experience, This promotes both an accessible introduction for novice delegates and a sufficiently rigorous intellectual challenge for advanced participants.

UN Security Council

The Security Council requires chairs with extensive prior experience in SC committees, given the highly technical and fast-paced nature of debate. Delegates in this committee are expected to be expert-level participants with strong geopolitical literacy and fluency in advanced procedure. Chairs must therefore be prepared to moderate delegates who are exceptionally skilled.

Expert Level

ADHOC

The ADHOC Committee requires chairs with exceptional adaptability and extensive prior experience in crisis-intensive or unconventional MUN formats. Delegates in ADHOC are expected to be expert-level participants that have won previous awards. Thus, chairs must be prepared to manage highly dynamic debate, oversee evolving crisis scenarios, and maintain intellectual and procedural coherence in an environment intentionally designed to challenge even the most experienced delegates.

Expert Level

US Senate

The United States Senate requires chairs with an advanced understanding of American legislative procedure, federal policymaking, and high-level political negotiation. Applicants must demonstrate prior experience in complex, debate-intensive committees and be capable of managing rapid amendments, caucus negotiations, and parliamentary strategy. Delegates in this committee are expected to be expert-level participants with strong familiarity in legislative drafting and political analysis. Accordingly, chairs must guide a chamber of highly competent delegates through procedurally dense, high-stakes deliberations that mirror authentic congressional dynamics.

Expert Level

Disarmament and International Security

DISEC requires chairs with substantial prior exposure to disarmament and security policy, as well as the ability to actively manage debate flow and sustain analytical coherence. Delegates are expected to be intermediate-level, with adequate familiarity regarding committee jurisdiction and resolution drafting, yet often needing further guidance in formulating precise and well-developed solutions. Chairs must offer consistent academic direction, clarify procedural nuances when necessary, and ensure that discussions maintain policy relevance.

Intermediate Level

Special Political and Decolonization Committee

SPECPOL requires chairs with prior experience addressing political and decolonization issues and the ability to enforce consistent procedural discipline. Delegates are generally intermediate-level, capable of navigating historically complex topics but still benefiting from academic guidance. Chairs should maintain analytical rigor while ensuring debate remains grounded in historical and political context.

Intermediate Level

United Nations Economic and Social Council

ECOSOC requires chairs with strong understanding of socioeconomic policy and the capacity to intervene effectively in shaping the flow of debate. Delegates in this committee are generally intermediate-level, possessing moderate procedural knowledge and a reasonable grasp of the committee’s jurisdiction and basic resolution-writing. However, their proposed solutions may require further refinement and conceptual shaping. Chairs must therefore provide comprehensive mentorship, guide analytical depth, and ensure that debate remains structured, rigorous, and aligned with ECOSOC’s substantive mandate.

Intermediate Level

World Health Organization

WHO requires chairs with substantial familiarity in global health governance and the ability to present technical material in a clear, accessible manner. Delegates in this committee are expected to be beginner-level, often arriving with limited understanding of resolution drafting, the jurisdiction of the committee, and even the structure of a position paper. Chairs must therefore exercise exceptional patience, provide continuous procedural and substantive guidance, and support delegates as they develop foundational skills in research, drafting, and solution-building, while ensuring that debate maintains academic integrity.

Beginner Level

Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee

SOCHUM calls for chairs with strong grounding in human rights and social policy, combined with a pedagogical approach suited to early-stage participants. Delegates are expected to be beginner-level, frequently lacking familiarity with resolution-writing conventions, committee mandate, and the formulation of coherent policy solutions. Thus, they may require assistance even with basic tasks such as preparing their position papers. Chairs must be prepared to offer step-by-step support, clarify procedural expectations, and uphold scholarly rigor while cultivating an inclusive, educational environment for novice delegates.
